Q1. What do you think is the social issue presented? What message is conveyed and is it relevant to the social issue?
Ans:
The social issue presented in this poster is anorexia. This poster is trying to convey to us that "Anorexia is not just about food, but it is a battle for control". Through this message we are able to see that anorexia is actually a battle between one's body and mind in which the defeats the body. The mind controls thoughts and emotions and in this case psychologically an thinks that he/she is not thin enough; no matter how skinny he/she is, it is still considered fat. While the body needs sufficient food intake and nutrient to sustain and without enough nutrients and calories, one becomes weak and unhealthy. Thus, anorexia is where the body is conquered and the mind is triumphant. Hence, an anorexic's body pays the price as it becomes weaker due to the lack of fuel to function properly.

Q2. Is there anything unusual and attention-grabbing about the stimulus? What is it? How is it unusual and attention-grabbing?
Ans:
Yes, there is something unusual and attention-grabbing about the stimulus. There is a woman's body at the left side of the poster. The woman's body has a black, hollow hole at the stomach area. This is not usually seen in a normal human body. This peculiarity grabs attention of the audience. The black hole is empty; implying that her stomach is empty which means there is no food in her body and thus showing that she is suffering from malnutrition because of anorexia.

Q3. How have the various elements been used to create and convey the intended social message? (eg. background, settings, characters, colour, placement, etc) Are they effective? How did they make you feel?
Ans:
The words "My Body is defeated", "My Mind is victorious" and "This is how I define beautiful" are in different fonts, some of them are bigger in size, but the words "My Body is defeated" is in the biggest font, this is to show us that anorexia is a war between the body and the mind and when the mind wins, the body loses. The words which are in a smallest fonts tells us about what happens when we are suffering from anorexia. The words makes a very great impact on us and it is very effective in conveying the message of "Anorexia is not just about food, but it is a battle for control".
The background of the poster is white in colour, the colour shows us that it is bad to suffer from anorexia and it gives a very negative atmosphere that shows us that there is not a lot of hope for those who are suffering from anorexia. There is a woman who have a hollow and dark black hole at her stomach and she is placed on the side of the poster and she took up half the picture, the hollow stomach shows that she is not very healthy and she is not very nutritious, and the bruises all over her, tells us that people suffering from anorexia are weak as they bruise themselves easily. The picture makes us feel disgusted because we normally will not see a hole on a body. They are very effective in conveying the message.
